When Strength Becomes a Role

Being strong can be a valuable capacity.

It can help us survive difficult periods, support people we love and keep moving when life becomes demanding.

But strength can also become something we feel we must perform.

We may become the person who always manages, always helps, always stays calm, always finds a solution and rarely allows others to see when things are becoming too much.

Over time, this can become exhausting.

The difficulty is not strength itself.

It is feeling that we are not allowed to be anything else.

A Question Worth Asking

“Am I being strong because I choose to — or because I no longer know how to let anyone see that I need support too?”

For some people, asking for help feels uncomfortable.

We may worry about burdening others, appearing weak, losing control or disappointing the people who rely on us.

Sometimes we have learned that being useful, capable or emotionally contained is what makes us dependable — or even lovable.

But needing support does not erase strength.

Sometimes strength also means recognising when we can no longer carry everything alone.

Who Is This Workshop For?

  • Are usually the person everyone relies on

  • Find it difficult to ask for help

  • Feel responsible for keeping everything together

  • Hide when you are struggling

  • Often say “I’m fine” even when you are exhausted

  • Feel guilty when prioritising your own needs

  • Worry about disappointing others

  • Find it easier to support others than to receive support

  • Feel emotionally tired from always coping

  • Have difficulty resting without feeling unproductive

  • Want to understand why strength has become such an important part of your identity

  • Want to create more room for your own needs without feeling that you are failing others

What to Expect

This is a live psychoeducational and experiential workshop, combining psychological knowledge with guided reflection and practical exercises.

We will explore how strength can become part of identity, why vulnerability may feel uncomfortable and how family roles, expectations and earlier experiences can influence the belief that we must always cope.

Participants will also have the opportunity to reflect on what happens when they need support, how they respond to their own limits and how to begin making more space for receiving care as well as giving it.

There is no expectation to share personal experiences with the group. You may participate in the way that feels most comfortable for you.

The workshop is designed for personal growth and self-reflection and does not replace individual psychotherapy or mental health treatment.
