Looking Beyond the Symptoms
In Positive Psychotherapy, we look beyond the symptoms rather than seeing depression as something that defines you. We explore the experiences, relationships, emotional conflicts and unmet needs that may have gradually led you to this place.
Depression is often the result of carrying too much for too long. Therapy offers a safe space to slow down, reconnect with yourself and begin understanding what your mind and body have been trying to communicate.
Recovery is not about becoming someone different. It is about returning to yourself.

How Depression May Show Up
Depression affects each person differently. You may experience:
Persistent sadness or emotional numbness
Loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed
Constant fatigue or lack of energy
Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
Changes in sleep or appetite
Feelings of guilt, worthlessness or hopelessness
Withdrawing from family and friends
Feeling disconnected from yourself or your life
You do not need to experience every symptom for your struggles to deserve attention and care.
How Therapy Can Help
Therapy is not about simply reducing symptoms. It is about understanding what lies beneath them.
Together we can:
Understand the emotional roots of your depression.
Break unhelpful emotional and behavioural patterns.
Reconnect with your personal strengths and values.
Restore emotional balance and hope.
Develop healthier ways of coping with life's challenges.
Gradually rebuild confidence, meaning and purpose.
Healing happens one step at a time, and you do not have to take those steps alone.
What Is Depression?
Depression is a common but potentially serious mental health condition that can affect the way a person feels, thinks and functions in everyday life. It is characterised by a persistent low mood and/or a marked loss of interest or pleasure in activities that were once meaningful. Depression may also affect sleep, appetite, energy, concentration, motivation and self-worth. Unlike temporary sadness, its symptoms persist over time and can significantly interfere with relationships, work and daily functioning.
Depression is never a sign of weakness. Very often, it is the quiet voice of a person who has been strong for too long, giving endlessly to others while slowly losing connection with their own needs.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I am experiencing depression or just feeling sad?
Sadness is a normal emotional response that usually fades with time. Depression is more persistent, lasts for at least two weeks and affects the way a person thinks, feels and functions in everyday life.
Can depression improve without treatment?
Some people may notice gradual improvement, particularly if symptoms are mild. However, professional support can help people understand the underlying causes, reduce symptoms and prevent depression from becoming more severe or long-lasting.
Is depression a sign of weakness?
No. Depression is a recognised mental health condition that can affect anyone, regardless of age, personality or life circumstances. Seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
Can therapy help with depression?
Yes. Psychological therapy can help people understand the factors contributing to depression, develop healthier ways of coping and gradually reconnect with their strengths, relationships and everyday life.
Do I need medication if I have depression?
Not always. The most appropriate treatment depends on the severity of symptoms, personal circumstances and individual needs. For some people, therapy alone may be sufficient, while others may benefit from a combination of psychotherapy and medication under the guidance of a qualified healthcare professional.
Is recovery from depression possible?
Yes. With the right support and treatment, most people experience significant improvement. Recovery does not always mean that difficult emotions disappear completely, but that people regain hope, balance and the ability to live a meaningful life.
