Loving Them, Guiding Them, Letting Them Grow
A 12-Week Live Online Therapeutic Group for Parents

Supporting your child’s growth while staying connected, setting boundaries and learning when to hold on — and when to let go.
Parenting changes constantly.
The child who once needed you for almost everything gradually begins to ask for more independence, more privacy, more space and more freedom to make their own choices. And while this development is natural, it can bring uncertainty, worry, conflict and sometimes a quiet sense of loss for parents.
Loving Them, Guiding Them, Letting Them Grow is a therapeutic group for parents who want to strengthen their relationship with their children while navigating boundaries, communication, changing needs and the emotional challenges of letting go.
The aim is not to become a perfect parent.
It is to develop a relationship in which love and guidance can coexist with trust, limits, independence and respect for your child’s growing identity.
When Parenting Begins to Feel More Complicated
You may recognise yourself if you often:
worry about whether you are making the right decisions as a parent
struggle to know when to intervene and when to step back
find it difficult to set limits without feeling guilty
feel that conversations with your child quickly turn into conflict
worry that boundaries may damage your relationship
feel anxious as your child becomes more independent
find yourself trying to prevent every mistake or disappointment
struggle when your child rejects your advice
feel responsible for your child’s emotions, choices or difficulties
notice that fear sometimes leads you to become more controlling than you would like
feel unsure how much freedom is appropriate
miss the closeness you once had
wonder how to stay connected while allowing your child to become their own person
Parenting often asks us to do two difficult things at the same time: to remain deeply connected and to gradually let go.
What We Will Explore
Across the 12-week therapeutic cycle, we will explore:
Love, protection & independence
Understanding the difference between protecting a child and preventing them from developing confidence, autonomy and resilience.
Boundaries without losing connection
Exploring how clear limits can create safety and stability without becoming rigid, punitive or emotionally distant.
Communication when emotions run high
Learning to recognise what happens beneath arguments, withdrawal, defensiveness and repeated misunderstandings.
The difficulty of letting go
Exploring the fears that may arise as children become more independent and begin making choices that parents cannot fully control.
Parental guilt & self-doubt
Understanding the pressure to “get everything right” and developing a more realistic and compassionate view of parenting.
When our own experiences enter the relationship
Recognising how our childhood, fears, expectations and unmet needs may influence the way we respond to our children.
Guidance versus control
Exploring how to offer direction, values and support while respecting a child’s developing identity and capacity to make choices.
Staying connected through change
Finding ways to preserve trust and emotional closeness as the parent-child relationship evolves.
In Positive Psychotherapy
Positive Psychotherapy views parenting not simply through problems or mistakes, but through capacities, relationships, expectations and balance.
Parents often bring important strengths to their families: love, responsibility, protection, loyalty, discipline, patience and commitment.
Yet even valuable capacities can become unbalanced.
Protection may become overprotection. Responsibility may become constant worry. Guidance may gradually become control. The wish to remain close may make it difficult to allow independence.
Therapeutic work therefore focuses on restoring balance.
It asks how parents can continue to offer love, structure and guidance while also allowing children the space to develop confidence, responsibility and their own sense of self.
It also creates room to explore the parent’s own needs, fears and expectations — because parenting is not only about understanding the child.
It is also about understanding what happens within us when our children begin to grow beyond the roles we once knew.

A Relationship That Grows With Them
Children do not need parents who never make mistakes.
They need relationships that can adapt.
As children grow, parenting gradually changes from doing everything for them, to standing beside them, and eventually trusting them to take more responsibility for their own lives.
Letting them grow does not mean loving them less.
Sometimes it means learning a new way to love them.
