Am I Giving Too Much — or Accepting Too Little?

When Giving Becomes Unequal
Giving is an important part of healthy relationships.
But sometimes generosity slowly becomes over-functioning.
We may become the person who understands first, apologises first, makes the effort, keeps the peace, remembers everything, gives another chance, adjusts expectations or explains away behaviour that repeatedly leaves us disappointed.
Over time, this can create an imbalance.
The difficulty is that when we become used to giving more, we may stop noticing how little we are receiving in return.
A Question Worth Asking
“Am I giving because I genuinely want to — or because I am afraid of what might happen if I stop?”
Giving too much is not always simply about kindness.
Sometimes it may be connected to fear of rejection, guilt, low expectations, difficulty expressing needs, or a belief that love has to be earned through patience, usefulness or sacrifice.
At the same time, accepting too little can become familiar when we have learned to minimise our own needs.
The aim is not to keep score in relationships.
It is to understand whether there is enough room for mutuality, reciprocity, respect and emotional presence.
Who Is This Workshop For?
This workshop may be helpful if you:
Often feel that you give more than you receive
Find it difficult to ask directly for what you need
Frequently adjust yourself to keep relationships peaceful
Feel guilty when saying no
Accept behaviour that repeatedly disappoints you
Make excuses for other people's lack of effort
Feel responsible for keeping relationships together
Wonder whether your expectations are “too much”
Feel unseen, unappreciated or emotionally neglected
Struggle to identify where generosity ends and self-neglect begins
Want to understand your personal boundaries more clearly
Want to develop healthier expectations in relationships
What to Expect
This is a live psychoeducational and experiential workshop, combining psychological knowledge with guided reflection and practical exercises.
We will explore the difference between healthy giving and over-giving, how expectations and emotional needs shape relationships, and why some people find it easier to offer care than to ask for it.
Participants will also have the opportunity to reflect on their own boundaries, expectations and relationship patterns, and consider what reciprocity might look like in their own lives.
There is no expectation to share personal experiences with the group. You may participate in the way that feels most comfortable for you.
The workshop is designed for personal growth and self-reflection and does not replace individual psychotherapy or mental health treatment.
